Five approaches to multicultural education: by Sleeter (1996)

Advocates of the Teaching the Culturally Different approach attempt to raise the academic achievement of students of color through culturally relevant instruction.

Instructional Technology is the problem analysis, solution design, development, implementation, management, and evaluation of instructional processes and resources to improve learning and performance in education and at work.” (Robert Reiser, 2001). There are three principal families of theories about learning:

Theory of Behaviorism emphasizes observable behavior, rather than inner mental experiences. Behaviorism is also thought of in terms of association building, and the “drill and practice” software often used in skill-building is an example of behavioristic instructional technology design.

Theory of Cognitivism emphasizes the importance of perception, learning, and thought as bases for understanding human behavior and learning. Cognitivistic instructional design is characterized by analytic breakdown of a topic or subject matter, and the transformation of the subject matter into a set of structured cognitive tasks. Papert’s LOGO-based learning tools are considered cognitivistic.

Theory of constructivism is seen as a process of knowledge construction where the learner is in charge of his or her own learning experience. Experience, combined with reflection and social interaction, allows the learner to build on prior knowledge and create their own understanding of ideas and concepts. An example of a constructivist learning environment online is a Web-Quest, an inquiry based activity where the information used by learners is drawn from the Web.

Maslow Theory

After learning about Maslow theory I thought to should share this information on blog with my other friends. The most important aspects of Maslow theory were educational goals for students to learn. Another important objective was to learn importance of life, and make use of knowledge purposeful and meaningful to the students so that it can be valuable and useful through their lives.

Maslow’s Hierarchy of motivation is as following:
Level one: Physiological needs such as hunger, thirst, sex, sleep, relaxation and bodily integrity must be satisfied before the next level comes into play.
Level two: Safety needs call for a predictable and orderly world. If these are not satisfied people will look to organize their worlds to provide for the greatest degree of safety and security. If satisfied, people will come under the force of level three.
Level three: Love and belongings needs cause people to seek warm and friendly relationships.
Level four: Self-esteem needs involve the desire for strength, achievement, adequacy, mastery and competence. They also involve confidence, independence, reputation and prestige.
Level five: Self-actualization is the full use and expression of talents, capacities

I found a web site useful for learning web design and hosting, the site gives me options for adding more features such as ftp, domain, etc, if we select that option then we have to pay for services.
